Program Highlights

Learn, think, explore, question, connect, laugh, relax, and enjoy. The 2017 NIT League Transportation Summit, at the award-winning San Diego Hilton Resort & Spa, is packed with educational, social, and inspirational events that will continue to pay dividends long after you return to your office.

Best known for his 1982 book The One Minute Manager, Ken Blanchard is the founder of The Ken Blanchard Companies, a management consulting and training firm he established with his wife, Marjorie, in 1979. Now a global business that works with Fortune 500 companies in more than 30 countries, The Ken Blanchard Companies is renowned for helping people understand themselves better so they can become self-leaders and grow into competent and confident managers.

Rail, ocean, and highway freight transportation issues will be front and center during these 90-minute mode-specific sessions. A speaker or moderator will set the stage for each session, then a panel of industry experts will lead a discussion and answer attendees’ questions. To learn more about the presentations and see who’s participating on the panels, visit the speakers and panelists page.

The latest products and technologies will be on display at the Summit in an exhibit hall located just steps from the meeting rooms. Attendees will have more than 13 hours of dedicated time to visit with exhibitors, including breakfasts, breaks, and receptions.

The League has scheduled nearly 10 hours of time at the Summit for private meetings between companies. To facilitate the meetings, the League is offering space on a first come, first served basis. Check the available meeting times (listed in red type) on the Summit schedule, then contact Adri Mundy to reserve your space to meet with current or future business partners and colleagues.

  • The meeting space will be available to all attendees, including non-League members.
  • Attendees who reserve space at the meetings and want to put out a call to Summit attendees to contact them to schedule meetings can ask the League to issue such an invitation.
  • Food and beverages or audio/visual equipment needs can be arranged directly with the hotel.
  • Attendees who meet should observe and follow all antitrust or other legal compliance obligations. Private meetings among direct competitors can be especially problematic, and attendees should take appropriate cautionary steps that they deem to be reasonably necessary. The League will not be responsible for antitrust and legal compliance during these private meetings.

The warm Pacific breezes and natural beauty of Southern California lend themselves to year-round golfing, and what better location than the Fairmont Grand Del Mar Golf Club, designed by noted course architect Tom Fazio. Set in the picturesque Los Penasquitos Canyon, the course features lush fairways and dramatic backdrops that make for a memorable golfing experience. Attendees wishing to participate in the tournament must register in advance.

Join your fellow logistics professionals on a tour of the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal and the National City Marine Terminal on Monday, January 30. The tour is free, and transportation to and from the San Diego Hilton will be provided by the League, but participation is limited to the first 25 Summit attendees who register for it. To register, contact Adri Mundy.

New to NITL or the freight transportation industry? Want extra time to connect with Summit attendees? Join your industry colleagues at a mixer from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 30. Make new connections that will develop over time and become lasting professional and personal friendships. Be sure to make plans to attend the opening reception, immediately following the mixer.

Celebrate the opening of the NIT League Transportation Summit and the exhibit hall at a reception for all attendees. Light hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served as you reconnect with colleagues and walk the trade show floor.

NITL’s three modal committees—Rail Transportation, Highway Transportation, and Ocean Transportation—will each meet during the Summit. Committees will address the most timely topics, hear from various guest speakers, and establish recommendations for League positions on rail, highway, and ocean transportation policy and regulations. Committee meetings are open to NITL members only. If you are a League member and are interested in joining a modal committee, please contact
